Janine’s Most Memorable Experience

“I have been so fortunate to have travelled to many countries across the world, which makes it really difficult to pick only one memorable experience. In Africa, there really is nothing quite as spectacular as the sunsets – and on my recent trip to Zambia, enjoying a sunset cruise on the Zambezi was pretty spectacular. Africa is a feeling, and I really believe that everyone needs to experience it at least once in their lifetime. But out of all of my travel experiences, I would probably say the most memorable was crewing a yacht that we delivered from Cape Town to the Seychelles. Spending 30 days at sea, having no contact with the rest of the world (this was before mobile phones!), hoping our food rations would last the trip, and navigating some pretty terrifying storms and rough water along the way, really put life into perspective. I’m glad I did it in my early 20s before I knew better!”

Janine’s Bio

Janine grew up in Cape Town, one of the world’s most coveted travel destinations. After graduating high school, she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Cape Town and, later, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing and Business Management. She worked her way through various roles within the hospitality industry before purchasing a restaurant with her husband, which they owned and managed for eight years. After a few years, and with two children in tow, in 2018 they made the difficult decision to sell the restaurant, leave their hometown, and emigrate to the UK. This is where Janine found Yellow Zebra and was welcomed into this wonderful community of like-minded travel enthusiasts. After six years in the UK, a career opportunity for her husband sparked another move abroad, this time to the USA. Janine and her family now live in Georgia, with their two tuxedo cats, and are hoping to add a dog to the mix soon. She is looking forward to exploring more of the US and wants to visit each one of the 50 states. In her spare time, Janine loves to bake and has been known to make a pretty mean chocolate brownie.
