Little Sable offers an exhilarating variety of activities. Please note, a couple of these are dependent on water levels, indicated with an asterisk below:
The Khwai Private Reserve covers 2,000 square kilometres and it’s home to an impressive amount of wildlife. Vehicle safaris take place during morning, afternoon, and evening too. Among the species you can look out for are four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Smaller predators and herbivores in residence include cheetah, wild dog, baboon, impala, roan, and sable. And there are hundreds of birds!

Also accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide, walks from Little Sable are fantastic for anyone interested in becoming acquainted with the plants and insects of Khwai. You can enjoy birding too – the area’s specials include bat-hawk, long-crested eagle, and rosy-throated longclaw.

Exploring the waterways around camp makes for a wonderful experience, featuring sights such as huge hippos and a wealth of waterbirds.

This activity is particularly thrilling – the mokoro, a dug-out canoe, doesn’t have a motor, so you can focus all your attention on the sights and sounds of the waterways’ wildlife!

Don’t forget your camera and binoculars, as the camp has several ground-level hides, making for super-close encounters with lots of different species.

The camp has specially adapted vehicles for keen photographers, as well as a photo guide.

Available from 1st April to 31st October, this activity involves drifting off to sleep on a platform in the bush. Please note, the sky-bed must be booked in advance.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Most of the communal areas at Little Sable are found in the camp’s very attractive timber-and-thatch lodge building, also elevated above the ground.
As you approach, you’ll see a sunken lounge, essentially a corner unit of seating either side of the entrance. As with the guest tents, a few steps lead up into the structure. Immediately in front of you is the camp’s well-stocked bar. To the left is the pleasant lounge, with its colourfully cushioned chairs and sofas. There’s a dining space here too. On the other side of the lodge is the main dining area, where leaf-patterned upright chairs are set up around a long table. Wildlife artwork is displayed throughout the building, and elegant lighting hangs overhead. Strolling back down the steps, you’ll note the camp’s large fire-pit a short distance ahead. Here, a ring of safari chairs surrounds the central burner, providing the perfect place to get together with fellow safarists and talk about all your adventures!
There are eight guest tents, all spaced out over the grasslands.
Each is raised above ground level on wooden decking, with a few steps up to the deck. The tents are Meru in style – an exterior layer of canvas extends over the inner layer to create a private veranda. The veranda offers a couple of safari chairs, a small table, and amazing views over Khwai! Entering the tent, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables, a writing desk and chair, and wildlife artwork. The en-suite washroom is positioned behind the headboard of the bed/s, and it contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins in a spacious vanity unit, and shower.
