Bordering Moremi Game Reserve, Mma Dinare is ideally placed for wildlife viewing, and its position within a private concession means night drives and nature walks are possible too.
The concession covers over 25,000 hectares, incorporating mopane woodland, seasonal water frontage, and riverine forest. Species in residence include all four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! There are also many smaller predators and herbivores, such as cheetah, hyena, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, hippo, and a great variety of antelopes. Led by an expert guide and tracking team, explore Mma Dinare’s vast wild spaces and robust wildlife populations.
Head out after dark searching for some of the concession’s more elusive nocturnal species. If you’re extra lucky, you might spot aardvark, aardwolf, the rarely seen pangolin, porcupine, and perhaps the occasional leopard.
Exploring the bush on foot is the ideal opportunity for up-close wildlife encounters and observation of the area’s smaller species, including insects, reptiles, and plant life. Keen birders can slow down and scan the skies and water sources for fish eagles, slaty egret, pygmy goose, southern carmine bee-eater, and the intriguing Pel’s fishing owl.
Glide silently along the Okavango Delta’s tranquil water channels in a traditional dug-out canoe led by an expert poler. The gentle pace and rippling water will lull you into deep relaxation as you encounter tiny reed frogs, brightly coloured birds, and delicate dragonflies.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
Mma Dinare is located on the Gomoti river in the south of the Okavango Delta’s Dinare Private Reserve, bordering Moremi Game Reserve. Access is by light aircraft (a 20-minute flight from Maun), followed by a 45-minute game drive to the camp.
Mma Dinare’s shared space is raised on stilts and includes open-sided dining, lounge, and bar areas below thatched roofing and a convivial firepit area.
Communal meals are typically enjoyed around the dining table, and the help-yourself bar adds to the camp’s informal atmosphere. There’s also a safari shop and a nicely sized swimming pool on a spacious wooden deck with sunloungers.
The accommodation at Mma Dinare consists of nine canvas tents, including one family suite.
Simple yet comfortably furnished, each contains a super-king, extra-length bed (it’s also possible to request a twin configuration), a mosquito net, an overhead ceiling fan, and reading lamps built into the headboard. In a clever use of space, the front-facing lounge areas are separated from the bedrooms by mesh-panelled sliding doors and almost feel like part of the veranda. Here, you’ll find sink-in armchairs and footrests – it’s the ideal shady spot to relax with a book or gaze at the picturesque views. Tents also contain a tea-and-coffee facility, a charging station with international multi-plugs and USB, a writing desk, an open hanging space and shelving for clothes, a digital safe, insect repellents, and an emergency horn. Behind the bed at the back of the tent, you’ll find the en-suite bathroom with twin basins, a separate toilet, and an outdoor shower. The two-bedroom family suite comprises two adjoining en-suite tents (a main tent and a smaller unit) with one shared entrance in the main bedroom, and an extra bed is available on request, accommodating up to three children. Tent 5 has a wheelchair-friendly toilet, and the camp has ramps to the public areas. Please note that Mma Dinare is Wi-Fi and network-free.
