  • These take place during the morning and the afternoon. Drives cover a lot of ground, traversing the plains of the 130,000-hectares to provide some high-quality wildlife viewing. Highlights include four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! You can also look out for smaller predators and herbivores, such as cheetah, spotted hyena, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and antelopes.

  • Explore the waterways of the concession on a thrilling boat trip. There’s a lot to see, not least hippo, Nile crocodile, and plenty of waterbirds.

  • You can also view the wildlife of the waters aboard a mokoro, a dug-out canoe. As the mokoro doesn’t have a motor, you’ll enjoy listening to the mammals, reptiles, and birds around you.

  • Set out on foot in the company of a knowledgeable and experienced guide, to observe the concession’s plants, insects, and phenomenal birdlife. Sometimes it’s possible to track big game too!

  • Basic equipment is available from camp for guest use. You could spend an entire afternoon fishing the area’s waterways, catching-and-releasing the likes of pike and bream.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

Located in the southwest of Botswana’s private Selinda Game Reserve, Okavango Explorers Camp combines the upper Okavango Delta and the famous Selinda Slipway – an area handpicked for its strong predator and elephant numbers. The 130,000 acre reserve abounds with wildlife: wild dog, leopard and lion love this region, alongside buffalo, giraffe and rare species of antelope. The camp is particularly good in the dry season (May–Oct) as all the surrounding game heads to the remaining water source…culminating in over 9,000 elephant making the reserve their home towards September! To access Okavango Explorers you’d fly into Motswiri airstrip, with a short Landcruiser transfer to camp – on which you’ll be game viewing from the off.

They’re well-appointed without being showy; everything is where it should be…fans, en-suite bathroom with shower, flush toilet, an explorer’s style basin with hot and cold water, and his and hers chests guarding a comfy bed. The camp provides bush breakfasts during early morning game drives, although a cooked brunch is always available back at base. In the heat of the day you return for lunch in camp and there’s an excellent buffet spread. In the evenings, after sundowners and chat round the firepit, dining is communal and under the stars. Facilities are safari based; so no pool or wi-fi, just a great game area! This a camp that can be booked out exclusively so perfect for larger groups.
