Gorilla Trekking Safaris in Uganda

The gorilla habituation experience is different from the gorilla treks, as it allows you to spend almost four hours with a family group whom rangers are in the process of habituating. The full four-hour adventure starts from the time your group locates the spot where the gorillas nested down the night before, which will then be followed by a trek to find and observe them. They are usually very close by!

The gorilla habituation experience can only be done in Uganda and offers a deeper, more immersive encounter than a standard gorilla trek. Unlike regular treks, in which viewing time is limited to one hour, this experience allows almost four hours with a gorilla family whose members are still becoming accustomed to human presence. Tracking begins early, with rangers leading the way through dense, little-trodden forest, starting from the gorillas’ nests from the previous night. The route often involves rugged terrain, farmland, and thick jungle – this is real adventure trekking!

As these gorillas are not yet fully habituated, they tend to be more cautious. Your presence plays a role in the process of gradually familiarising them with humans, aiding ongoing conservation work. While the setting may limit close-up photography, the experience offers a raw and authentic insight into gorilla behaviour and the dedication of the rangers protecting them.
