Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • One to discuss with us
The views from camp are superb, whilst the price is attractive… however, with any camp on the escarpment the drive down onto the valley floor involves a border check and a frustrating amount of time wasted. Not a Yellow Zebra favourite.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

To reach the camp, visitors travel up a steep road, through a wooded valley, to the top of the Oloololo Escarpment, where Kilima provides safari chic and incredible views. In Swahili, the name of the camp means ‘mountain’ or ‘little hill’ – and you will be blown away by the views of the Mara River and Maasai Mara plains as you sit and relax at Kilima!

The large main building is centrally located and offers a space to unwind with food, drinks, games or reading areas. A relatively newly built bar and lounge has an outlook over the plains and river of the Mara – many an hour can be spent with a whiskey or glass of wine in hand, as you look out at the wildlife, and later on admire the stars! Either side of the bar are two restaurants, both buffet style and with one featuring a fire, for those cooler winter evenings. A small spa area invites visitors in for a variety of treatments to soothe the soul. Outside holds a special atmosphere, with a bush bar and campfire offering guests the chance to relax with nature and stoke the fire while sharing stories of their day with fellow guests and staff members alike. Take drinks out to watch the sun go down and then sit back with the stars above.

Twelve classic tents offer space for three guests with plenty of individual room, with three other deluxe tents being more suitable for families as they are larger in size and can accommodate up to five people. All of the rooms are spread out across the hill so you will have plenty of privacy – and each has a veranda with views of the river and plains below, the perfect place to look up at the night sky with your loved ones. It is like having your very own private sanctuary! The tents all have wooden flooring, comfortable furnishings and an interior bathroom, which is light and airy.
