  • Accompanied by your Samburu guide, set off on a hiking adventure in the montane forests of the Mathews Range, where you’ll see ancient cycads and perhaps catch sight of the rare colobus monkey. This region has some incredible birdlife, so don’t forget your binoculars!

  • Active guests will love the guided trail runs with Sarara’s Samburu running guides. A great way to keep fit while spending time immersed in nature.

  • Experience the ancient and revered Samburu tradition of singing wells, where you’ll observe warriors as they dig deep wells to source fresh drinking water for their livestock. A truly unforgettable experience, unique to this region.

  • Explore the Mathews Range on horseback, and gain a completely different perspective on the land and its flora and fauna. You’ll set off early in the morning and ride to a scenic spot for a delicious bush breakfast. Both beginners and competent riders are welcome.   • Learn all about beading from Samburu ladies, admire adorned warriors during a traditional Samburu dance, or observe a blacksmith at work. Access & Location

Sarara Treehouses is located in northern Kenya’s Namunyak Conservancy. Guests can arrive by private charter at Namunyak airstrip, or by scheduled flight to Kalama, followed by a 1.5-hour drive to the lodge. It’s also possible to travel by road from Lewa Conservancy, but this takes approximately 3.5 hours.

This open-sided space invites the forest breeze and offers a tranquil setting for sinking into a sofa and soaking up the verdant views. Just outside, a swimming pool provides a breathtaking panorama of Mount Uarges, one of the seven sacred mountains of the Samburu people. Entirely off grid and solar-powered, the camp operates with commitment to the environment, ensuring minimal impact on its natural surroundings. Guests gather for communal meals featuring fresh local produce tailored to all dietary needs. While the experience is one of total immersion, modern comforts like Wi-Fi are available in the guest area, alongside a boutique shop for curated safari mementoes.

Each tent is en suite, with a solar-heated outdoor shower overlooking the ancient forest glade. Perched on elevated wooden platforms, with sunlight filtering through the trees, you’ll awaken to the sound of birdsong or perhaps an elephant on the forest floor beneath. The style is rustic and comfortable, blending perfectly with the natural environment, and featuring zip-up canvas entrances, mesh windows, wooden floors, and neutral earth tones throughout. There’s a writing desk, an indoor sitting area, and a comfortable veranda with cushioned seating overlooking the tree canopy. The family room consists of two separate tented suites that connect externally via a shared walkway.
