A Conservation Success Story

Liwonde National Park is undoubtedly a Malawian conservation success story. Previously beset with human–wildlife and poaching issues, it’s now a thriving wildlife destination thanks to a partnership between African Parks and Malawi’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife. Due to numerous successful reintroduction programmes and community initiatives, Liwonde is now home to healthy populations of black rhino, lion, cheetah, and increasing numbers of wild dogs (alongside its longstanding populations of thousands of elephant, hippo, crocodile, and antelope).
