Nyamata Genocide Memorial

  • Kigali is a dynamic, vibrant city with plenty of interesting sites to explore. Visit its key attractions, including the market, Centenary Park, Kigali City Tower, and buzzing Kigali City Market. The Kandt House Museum of Natural History showcases the flora and fauna of Rwanda’s national parks, and there’s an exhibition of live reptiles too! Just 3 kilometres outside Kigali, the Belgian Peacekeepers Memorial commemorates the Belgian peacekeeping forces who were murdered in 1994. Besides monuments and museums, you can also visit local coffee shops, fashion boutiques, and artisan visits for a deeper insight into modern-day Kigali.

  • Rwanda has a vibrant contemporary arts and creative scene, and Kigali is a great place to explore this side of its culture. The Inema Arts Centre showcases a mix of paintings, sculptures, mixed-media works, and hands-on classes, making it a must-visit for art enthusiasts! The work of seven artists is exhibited at Niyo Arts Gallery, which also features drumming and dance. There’s the Caplaki Craft Village in Rugunga too, a short drive from Kigali, where crafts are a bit more expensive than in the main market, but the sheer range of products is very impressive. There are rotating exhibitions at Retreat Kigali and Heaven Boutique Hotel, and each piece is available for purchase, encouraging guests to support local artists.
