The lodge can be accessed via 30 minutes’ road transfer from the Serengeti’s Seronera airstrip. It’s situated in the park’s wildlife-rich central region, on the side of a low hill.

Reliable favourite
For people looking for creature comforts whilst keeping to a budget, this is a really good option. It’s comfortable, and it has nice tented rooms and good service. With 25 tents, it is a bit on the large side, and it’s also in a busy part of the park – that’s why we’d usually recommend smaller tented camps if budget allows. But if not, this is a great alternative.

The lodge’s location provides easy access to many of the Serengeti’s most wildlife-rich regions, not least Seronera, the Maasai kopjes, and the Grumeti river. Drives start out from camp early in the morning and late in the afternoon. They last 2–3 hours, but all-day excursions are also possible. Many locations are home to the Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Smaller predators and herbivores abound, among them cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a fine assortment of antelopes. And if you visit during April/May or November/December, you can look out for the famous Great Migration herds!
Head out just before sunset, and your guide will find a lovely spot from which you can watch the sun go down while enjoying your favourite tipple. Bush breakfasts are offered too!
Anyone interested in the Serengeti’s culture can take up opportunities to find out about the local people’s daily lives, through fascinating guided tours involving the Mbuwge tribe.
It’s an early start, as the balloon ascends shortly before dawn, but the views over the Serengeti are well worth it. And after an hour in the air, you’ll descend to a hearty picnic breakfast!
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Many of the communal spaces at Kubu Kubu occupy a generously proportioned circular structure.
This also stands on a sturdy wooden platform, and it has a neatly thatched roof. The stylish lounge area features plenty of comfortable sofas and armchairs around coffee tables, amidst elegant lighting and beneath twinkling chandeliers. There’s a selection of board games as well. The dining area has a sophisticated ambience too, its chic wooden tables surrounded by smart upright chairs. Both areas flow out onto a deck, which provides a pleasant al fresco setting for relaxing and tucking in to delicious snacks and meals, all the while marvelling at Serengeti views! Often a campfire is lit, and guests gather to get to know each other and share safari stories. Finally, there’s a very inviting swimming pool, with sunloungers and parasols alongside.

There are 25 guest tents, positioned in two rows along the hillside.
Each stands on a sturdy timber platform and is designed to accommodate a maximum of two adults. Inside, there’s a double bed or twin beds with mosquito netting, bedside stands and lighting, a couple of comfy chairs and a small table, and ample storage space. Additional in-room amenities include a telephone, a tea-and-coffee station, mineral water, bathrobes, and a hairdryer. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin with large mirror over, and spacious outdoor shower with hot and cold water. The overall style is very contemporary, featuring a palette of neutrals and other muted tones. And every tent has a private balcony, boasting breathtaking views over the Central Serengeti’s acacia-studded plains. If you visit while the Great Migration is in the area, you’ll likely to see huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles from the comfort of your tent! Room service is offered, and access for disabled travellers is available on request.
