Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Exceptional choice
Hidden away from the crowds in the wonderful Lamai Wedge, Alex’s Lamai Camp is my favourite option for any Serengeti mobile from July to November. Private safaris and the sheer quality of the guides here take safari to the next level.

Activities

Activities from Serian’s Serengeti Lamai aim to bring you the best of the region’s wildlife – and on a truly spectacular scale:

Expertly guided game drives

Walking safaris

Fly camping

  • Every group of guests at Serian properties has exclusive use of an open-top safari vehicle plus spotter and guide – the same team of two is with you throughout your stay, ensuring that you see the best of the Serengeti at your own pace. The plains around the camp are teeming with wildlife – not only the herbivores, but also predators such as lion and cheetah. Elephant are also in residence, and it is not uncommon to see all Big Five species in a single day! Serian’s Serengeti Lamai is ideally placed for the annual Great Migration, where the experience of watching huge herds thrashing their way across the river is truly breathtaking, unlike anything else in the world. With crocs lying in wait for their prey, the scenes are sometimes pretty gripping, too!

    SSM Lamai Mess & Fire
  • Serian’s Serengeti Lamai’s walking safaris are the perfect way to explore all the small details of the ecosystem that you might miss while in a game drive vehicle. Whether you’re interested in dung beetles, butterflies, plant life, or birds of all colours and sizes, this is your chance to meander through nature crowd-free, stopping to marvel at all the elements.

    SSM Lamai Mess & Fire
  • If you are feeling particularly adventurous, fly camping amongst the elements adds a whole other dimension to the safari experience! Areas well worth exploring include the Lamai Wedge, where scenic open plains border the Maasai Mara, and the rocky plains of the Wogakuria Kopjes, where lucky spectators might catch sight of the occasional leopard. We recommend a stay of at least four nights, especially if you are planning to fit in some fly camping.

    SSM Lamai Mess & Fire

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

The lounge space is ideal for curling up on a comfy sofa with one of the camp’s selection of books, or you might like to try the traditional game of bao, well-loved in Tanzania. In the dining area, there’s a large communal table where guests are seated on director’s chairs and served delicious home-cooked meals, sometimes hosted by Alex Walker himself. Further seating is arranged just outside the tent, and the fire-pit offers the perfect place for sinking a sundowner and sharing your safari stories. A 24-hour generator provides electricity, but there is no Wi-Fi here, as guests are encouraged to disconnect completely!
