The remote location of the camp makes for plenty of wildlife sightings on game drives. In total, the South Luangwa National Park covers 9,500 square kilometres of sprawling savanna, woodlands, and water sources, including rivers Luwi and Luangwa and their lagoons. Vehicle safaris showcase an exhilarating variety of predators and herbivores. Species in residence include four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Other highlights include spotted hyena, wild dog, Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest, Crawshay’s zebra, and antelopes.
Your afternoon game drive will usually pause in a scenic spot for drinks and nibbles. Then after the sun has set, head out after sunset in the company of your expert guide, and you can have fun getting to know the nocturnal species of the South Luangwa. Just a few of these comprise leopard, civet, bush-tailed mongoose, scrub hare, honey badger, and the prickly porcupine!
This activity is also accompanied by a guide, as well as an armed scout for protection. It’s essential for any safarist interested in close scrutiny of the smaller lives of the park – the plants, insects, and birdlife. Among the South Luangwa’s bird specials are great white pelican, Verreaux’s eagle owl, and the beautiful little southern carmine bee-eater.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
The camp is accessed via 2 hours’ game drive transfer from Mfuwe Airport. It’s situated on the banks of the seasonal River Luwi which is usually dry when this area is accessible, in the remote northern region of the South Luangwa National Park.
The communal lounge/bar at Nsolo is set up within an open-sided lodge building.
Also made out of timber, reeds, and thatch, this neat little structure contains a comfortable sofa and wicker armchairs around a coffee table, a couple of pouffes, a writing desk and chair, a selection of reading material, and the camp’s bar with a few barstools. To one side of this space there’s a dining deck, accessed via a single step up from the lounge. The deck is set with one large table and safari chairs, and it’s a great venue for the camps communal meals. Guests might also dine on the banks of the river, and even in the riverbed too. Additionally, there’s a campfire for al fresco drinks and sharing safari stories! Wherever you base yourself in camp, you’ll have exciting opportunities to spot wildlife at the lagoon.
Guest accommodation consists of just five chalets, all spaced well apart amidst trees and along the banks of the river.
Constructed from timber, reeds, and thatch, all blend beautifully with the natural setting. Raised on decks each room is accessed via a short flight of steps leading up to a back door. Passing through this entrance, you arrive in the bedroom, which features a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, and some storage furniture. In-room amenities include mosquito nets and a standing fan, while the en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin, and outdoor shower. Double doors from the front of the bedroom lead out onto your private deck, where you’ll find a couple of comfy chairs, a table, and amazing views over the dry Luwi River! There are views of a permanent river lagoon too, which is popular with a great range of wildlife.
