Our Safari Partners

Green Safaris is an eco-friendly safari operator with a focus on the protection of Africa’s wild spaces through conservation, environmental awareness, and working with local communities.

Founded by Vincent Kouwenhoven in 2014, as the name suggests, Green Safaris’ vision is rooted in conservation, environmental awareness, and community upliftment. It has a collection of well-run, sustainable camps and lodges across Zambia’s Victoria FallsKafuethe Lower Zambezithe South Luangwa, Busanga Plains, and Malawi’s Likoma Island. Green Safaris is the only company in Zambia to offer ‘silent safaris’ using green technology such as electric game drive vehicles, boats, and bikes, and it has just launched the world’s first-ever electric dhow from Tongabezi Lodge.

Green Safaris has seven camps in Zambia and a beachfront camp in Malawi, which guests can easily fly to from the South Luangwa, allowing for some perfect safari–beach combinations. Ila Safari Lodge in Kafue National Park is the company’s flagship property, and this is where it pioneered the concept of the ‘green safari’, making Ila the first lodge in Zambia to provide electric game drives and boat cruises. Green Safaris has implemented environmentally friendly building practices at all its properties, many entirely solar run, and single-use plastic is banned. The company tries to minimise water wastage, sustainably source firewood, recycle food waste into compost, and use completely natural insecticides.

These stylish and well-run properties should be considered high-end with a rustic element. Green Safaris has spearheaded its own conservation and community development projects, as well as working with respected conservation groups, including the Likoma Conservation Foundation, Panthera Zambia, the Zambian Carnivore Program, Conservation South Luangwa, and Hack the Poacher, whose smart technology is making strides in targeting poaching. Each of the camps and lodges supports at least one local community project, and guests are invited to learn more about these during their stay.
