What to Expect on a Cape Peninsula Tour

Your private guide will pick you up relatively early from your hotel, assuming you’re staying close to Cape Town’s iconic V&A Waterfront. The first part of the tour is simply about enjoying the stunning scenery as you head southwards to Cape Point. You’ll drive at the base of the awe-inspiring Twelve Apostles mountain range, winding along the Atlantic Seaboard. You’ll pass through the upmarket beachside neighbourhoods of Clifton and Camps Bay. Take note of your favourite scenic viewpoint, as it will be worth returning to for a sundowner.

Cape of Good Hope

You’ll then pass through the coastal fishing village of Hout Bay, with its impressive traditional harbour and extensive local food and craft market. It’s always worth stopping off to grab a drink or a bite before continuing your journey. You’ll then arrive at the Cape of Good Hope, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including chacma baboons, mountain zebra, ostrich, eland, and endemic bontebok. This is part of the Table Mountain National Park, and you’ll go about 1 kilometre into the park to take in the sweeping panoramic ocean views, rugged cliffs, and secluded beaches. It’s the perfect place to experience the diversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom, as it’s home to 20% of Africa’s plant species.

Simon’s Town

From Cape Point, you’ll drive through to the quaint naval town of Simon’s Town, which is famous for its beach-going penguins. After exploring the town, you’ll go down to Boulders Beach to meet some of Africa’s cutest birds. This is a magical experience for children and adults alike, and it’s heartwarming watching their waddling antics. The African penguin is facing a race against extinction, and your visit goes a long way in helping to preserve the species.

Kalk Bay

At this point, you’ll be ready for a spot of late lunch, and there’s no better place to stop than Kalk Bay. The range of restaurants overlooking the historic harbour offer fresh seafood and gourmet cuisine. If you aren’t completely tapped out of energy from a busy day, you might have time to stop for a spot of wine tasting in the gorgeous Constantia Valley at one of the premium wine farms located here.
