Chiawa is located within the Lower Zambezi National Park boundary. In terms of access, there are flights from Lusaka, Livingstone and Mfuwe linking to the Lower Zambezi.

The camp offers all the activities for which the Lower Zambezi is famous. This results in a huge range of things to do to keep guests happy for longer stays than the average safari camp, and there’s a focus on excellent guiding. The safari experience here is very flexible, but in broad terms here’s a list of the activities on offer:

These take place during early morning and late afternoon, in the company of a knowledgeable and experienced guide. The sprawling savanna, woodlands, floodplains, and waters of the Lower Zambezi are home to a real wealth of wildlife! Among the wildlife highlights in the Lower Zambezi National Park are an impressive four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo!
This activity is available during early mornings and early afternoons. Please note that a good level of fitness is recommended, for safety reasons. Guests are also accompanied by an armed park ranger. Walks are fantastic for taking a really close look at the wildlife, with opportunities to observe even the smallest insects and plants!
A canoe guide accompanies safarists along the spectacular Zambezi River. Watch out for crocs, hippos, ample birdlife, and various wildlife on the banks.
Head out during the late afternoon, and you’ll enjoy sundowners as the sun sets over the river – bliss!
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Everything is of the highest standard here, from the sheer quality of guiding to the conservation ethos, the fine dining, and the cotton bedsheets. The communal area is a fantastic wooden two-tiered structure that affords great views over the river.
Depending on the time of year and the day’s activities, breakfasts, brunches, and lunches are served plated, or hot and cold buffet style, usually al fresco, sometimes in the bush, and even on a boat in the middle of the Zambezi! Prior to the afternoon safari activities, afternoon tea is usually served overlooking the river. Dinner is usually multiple courses served either under the stars or by the campfire.

Tents I – VIII are about 100 sq meters in size, and comprise of a canvas roof, canvas walls, a super-king bed, a lounge area, and a luxurious bathroom complete with a roll-top bath, and his and hers double washbasins.

Each of the tents boast views over the Zambezi River and its vast array of resident wildlife, including elephant, lion, leopard, hippo, and crocodiles. The Safari Suite is breathtaking with 220 sq meters of space that includes all the luxuries of the tents, but also has its own outdoor dining area, outdoor lounge, private fireplace, and 16-metre plunge pool.
