Opened in 2021, Shawa Luangwa Camp offers exclusive experiences in the South Luangwa! Guests will enjoy game drives in the camp’s impressive fleet of quiet electric vehicles – a major draw. Shawa Luangwa is the fourth property in the Green Safaris portfolio, joining Ila Safari Lodge, Kaya Mawa, and Chisa Busanga Camp. It’s named after Jacob Shawa, a famous safari guide who has featured in Wanderlust’s World Guide Awards. A favourite at Yellow Zebra, Green Safaris prides itself on sustainable design, as well as care of local wildlife and communities. Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, and the camp is open from June to November every year.

  • These will take place in two locations – a minute’s drive from camp across the river, and within the Nsefu sector, which is only 15 minutes away. Green Safaris has termed these drives ‘silent safaris’, due to the very small amount of noise generated by the camp’s electric vehicles (EVs). The first ‘eLandy’ was developed and used at Ila Safari Lodge seven years ago. Today the company owns a fleet of five solar-powered EVs! Once aboard an EV and travelling through the South Luangwa, guests will enjoy viewing a wide range of wildlife. This national park is home to four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Smaller predators in residence include cheetah, hyena, and occasional wild dog, while the herbivore count features giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, a fine assortment of antelopes, and numerous hippo.

The tents are positioned on a wooden platform and accessed via steps at the back of the structure. A few trees surround the tent, to provide some pleasant shade during the daytime. Peering inside, you’ll see a double bed and furnishings such as bedside stands and seating. The washroom occupies one side of the tent, with a flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. The platform will function as a private deck, offering 270-degree views over the river and across the park – a nice little spot for relaxing!
