Wilderness Doro Nawas is certainly in the right location to take advantage of this and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein, first in the country to be awarded that status for its extraordinary collection of ancient rock art.
Here, guided by locals, you can experience the Petrified Forest and the Organ Pipes, and enjoy astounding rock art and mind-boggling geological sites that portray how stark and beautiful Mother Nature can be!
This part of the world is well known for being home to desert-adapted elephants and the camp runs guided 4×4 drives to track these majestic animals in the Huab River Valley.
Wilderness Doro Nawas is ideally placed should you wish to self-drive either to Twyfelfontein or into the wild. Closer to the Camp, there is a walking trail around the lodge, which can be taken either alone or with one of the friendly guides.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course

The centrepiece is an open-air courtyard with a fire pit – and there are plenty of cushions to offer comfort after a rugged day out in the wild! Sit here and relax, telling tales of your exciting day. The courtyard is such an interesting and unique area, it really makes you long for this life on a more permanent basis! From here, steps lead to an open-roof terrace, where visitors can look out at amazing panoramic views, perfect for sundowners and some stargazing after dinner. Inside the main building is a curio shop, where you can purchase some gifts to go with your memories. There is also a nice bar, an intimate lounge area with fireplace and sofas, and a long dining area, perfect for either communal or individual eating. Between the main area and the accommodation there is a swimming pool – this can be fantastic on the hotter days for dipping in, cooling off, and then drying out in one of the surrounding sunloungers!

One of the chalets is a family unit, but the rest are identical, with a large double bed (or twins, depending on your company), padded wicker chairs to offer comfortable reading space, and a ceiling fan. There are no mosquito nets – the climate of the area discourages the biters – and the rooms are breezy and comfortable at night. An en-suite bathroom is situated just to the side of each room, behind a stone-and-canvas divider – the facilities include a flush toilet, twin washbasins and a shower. A veranda at the front of the chalet also provides an extra shower, this one through sliding glass doors – you will find yourself showering with nature, reed screens protecting your modesty and a wire fence warning the elephant away! The veranda is also the perfect place to sit and enjoy the view of the sandstone cliffs and mountains of Twyfelfontein in the distance and the wild plains of Abu-Huab nearby. You can also roll out the beds to sleep under the stars, a fantastic way to spend an evening with a loved one!
