Deteema Springs offers classic safari activities, as follows:
The north-western region of Hwange National Park is made up of rugged terrain, granite boulders, and characterful mopane trees. Drives from camp are excellent for exploring this fascinating landscape and seeking out a wide variety of wildlife. You can look out for all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Concentrations of elephant are especially impressive. Other predators in residence include cheetah, hyena, jackal, and wild dog, and sightings of smaller herbivores can involve hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a fine assortment of antelopes. There are over 450 bird species!

The availability of this activity depends on whether a specialist guide is in camp during your visit. Also, please note that there’s a minimum age requirement of 12 years. Walks present exciting opportunities to get to know the smaller lives of Hwange, such as the park’s plants, insects, and birdlife. There are ample specials when it comes to birding, not least Egyptian vulture, Goliath heron, greater flamingo, and the glamorous golden oriole!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

The communal tent at Deteema Springs is also raised above the ground on decking.
It contains the camp’s pleasant library, which features comfortable seating, coffee tables, and a good selection of reading material. There’s also access to Wi-Fi. Delicious meals are enjoyed in the dining area, and guests are welcome to eat out on the main decks too, all the while marvelling at spectacular views over the springs and north-western Hwange! There’s also a swimming pool, surrounded by inviting sunloungers. It’s the perfect place to cool off in between excursions into the national park.
Guest accommodation consists of eight tents, including one tent for family use.
Each is elevated above ground level on wooden decking. An exterior layer of canvas extends over the tent, creating a shady veranda at the front. Here you’ll find comfy chairs, a small table, and amazing views over the Deteema Springs! This water source attracts wildlife throughout the year, but it’s particularly popular during the drier months from May to November. Inside each standard tent, there’s a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a couple of comfy chairs, and ample storage space. The en-suite facilities are positioned at the back of every tent, and they comprise flush toilet, washbasin, and shower with hot and cold water. The family tent benefits from all these features, and it’s sufficiently spacious to sleep two adults and two children, or three adults in total. All units have 220V plug points.
*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a room without a balcony for safety reasons.
