Access & Location

Wolwedans Dune Camp is located in the private NamibRand Nature Reserve in south-west Namibia. Guests should not confuse this area with the huge dune fields at nearby Sossusvlei – it is far more sophisticated and subtle, and overall it provides a substantially quieter experience. Trips to Sossusvlei are not included in the rate and are usually not recommended – it’s a 2-hour, bumpy ride each way. To get to Wolwedans Dune Camp, guests take a 1-hour charter flight from Windhoek or Swakopmund to Wolwedans airstrip. From there, it’s a 15-minute drive each way to Dune Camp. Those arriving by road have a scenic 6–7-hour drive from either Windhoek or Swakopmund. Wolwedans also offers privately guided journeys from Windhoek in a closed 4×4.

The main mess area is made up of a series of interlocking decks that encompass a lounge, a dining area, and a tea room, all with views of the endless dunes.

Meals are communally taken on a shared table, and evenings can be spent sharing stories around the fire-pit.

The tents are all designed for the desert, for example the canvas sides can be opened up to capture the cooling breeze in summer months. The six guest tents are spacious and comfortable and are all raised up onto wooden platforms, maximising the great views. They are en-suite with indoor and outdoor bathrooms (but please note they do not have bathtubs). The rooms have twin or king-size beds and the outdoor deck allows for plenty of lounging around and safe sleep-outs under the stars. Each comes with a ‘Wolwedans Chiller’, a small water-filled silo (or tiny plunge pool) for the hotter months.

Dune Camp Private is located a short walk from the main area of Dune Camp, and offers two en-suite tented rooms and a shared main space. As a tented villa, it is ideal for families or two couples. This unit includes a private chef and guide; it also has a small private lounge and dining area plus outside bathrooms, a sleep-out deck, and two ‘Wolwedans Chillers’.

*Please be aware that the swimming pool (Wolwedans Chiller) here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in.*
