Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Great value for quality
If a classic mobile tented camp is your style of property then look no further – Chobe Under Canvas will deliver every time. I love this property, especially due to the quality of &Beyond’s guides and operations as a whole. Just be careful in October, as the tents can get sweltering!

  • Chobe National Park is a stunning area of Botswana, with endless plains, broadleaf woodlands, riverine forests, and, of course, the magnificent Chobe river. Drives from camp take place early in the morning and during the late afternoon. You can’t miss the vast herds of elephant, but there are numerous other species here, not least lion, leopard, buffalo, spotted hyena, hippo, giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, and vervet monkey.

  • Home to over 450 recorded bird species, most of which are indigenous, Chobe National Park offers some incredible sightings, including the broad-tailed paradise whydah, orange-winged pytilia, slaty egret, three-banded courser, white-fronted bee-eater, and marabou stork, to name a few.

  • Explore the bush from a different perspective, on board a Pangolin Voyager photographic safari river boat. This boat has eight individual 360°-rotating chairs fitted with camera mounts, and the half-day adventure offered by camp promises plenty of opportunities to photograph wildlife on the Chobe river. This activity is available for guests staying at least two consecutive nights at Chobe Under Canvas.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Designed to bring guests close to nature, interiors are simple and functional without missing any creature comforts required for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Each tent is fully netted and insect-proof, and also features sealable canvas windows, a hanging closet, a storage trunk, and bedside tables with rechargeable lanterns. Separated by a canvas partition, the en-suite washrooms contain flush toilets, tin basins, and bucket showers, with hot water provided on request. You’ll find a pair of Swarovski Optik CL Companion 8×30 binoculars for use during your stay, as well as a take-home journal with wildlife and bird checklists and maps of the area. Outside on the ground-level veranda, a couple of safari chairs set the scene for an early morning coffee while soaking up the bush setting. Well-trodden paths meander through the safari tents and down to the water, making it easy to get around camp (though unsuitable for wheelchair use). Please be aware that the tents have no electricity, though 12V charging units and USB ports are available in the safari vehicles.
