Lemala Ndutu is ideal for witnessing the wildebeest and zebra migration between December and March – and in particular for catching the beginning of calving in January. A good-quality, semi-permanent mobile camp, Lemala Ndutu combines a great location with excellent guiding.

As it moves twice per year, it becomes Lemala Mara Tented Camp when it is set in the northern Serengeti by the Mara river, between June and October. The company, Lemala, owns and operates authentic camps and lodges throughout North Tanzania – in Arusha, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and Tarangire National Park, as well as in the Serengeti. The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and all activities unless otherwise specified.

Due to the wild nature of this unfenced camp, parents must keep a very careful eye on children at all times.

Hot air balloon safaris

  • As well as going on standard game drives, guests can experience full-day game drives, taking delicious breakfast and lunch picnics to eat out in the bush.

    Lemala Mara migration
  • The highlight of your safari will be watching the huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles crossing the mighty Mara river! This is a spectacular show, not only for the sheer volume of plains game but also for the element of danger they face due to the presence of crocodiles within the rushing river. The presence of big cats also constitutes a significant threat to crossing wildebeest and zebra.

    Lemala Mara migration
  • Lemala Ndutu sits on the edge of a permanent marsh that attracts large numbers of game, including elephant and giraffe, as well as predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena.

  • Walking safaris are also available, with an armed ranger.

  • These can be arranged at an extra cost. Launching at dawn, the balloon drifts for about an hour over the Serengeti’s sprawling plains, time enough to get an exhilarating bird’s-eye view of the park and its inhabitants!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

The camp is situated amongst acacia woodland in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area near the border of the southern Serengeti. The camp is accessed via 30 minutes’ road transfer from Ndutu Airstrip.

*As this is a mobile tented camp, the location will change throughout the year based on the camp’s position. Mobile tented camps relocate seasonally to follow wildlife movements. Temporary but fully serviced, mobile tented camps leave no permanent trace and offer access to remote wilderness areas far from the crowds.
