Wilderness Usawa Serengeti offers a superb mobile tented camp experience, with access to 15,000 square kilometres of pure Serengeti wilderness from nine key migration sites. Following the path of the Great Migration with precision, Usawa is always at the heart of the action, able to pack up and follow the herds at a moment’s notice. In addition to the excellent guiding, service, and food we’ve come to expect from a Wilderness property, the camp’s brilliant locations across Serengeti National Park are far from the busier areas, guaranteeing greater exclusivity and walking safaris directly from camp.

Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Exceptional choice
Wilderness Usawa Serengeti aims to be the most luxurious and exclusive mobile camp in the park. It’s designed to be the perfect balance of ‘boutique luxury and adventure’ and we expect Usawa to set the standards for mobile camps across the continent. With only six rooms and walking offered from camp, this is the place to stay at the top end of the luxury safari market.

  • Due to its privileged locations within designated walking areas, Wilderness Usawa Serengeti offers walking safaris that begin right from camp under the supervision of experienced guides. Besides game tracking and being immersed in the area’s phenomenal birdlife, your guide will likely invite you to take a closer look at the resident insects and plant life. Different levels and distances can be arranged depending on your group’s requirements. Please note that this activity has a minimum age requirement of 12 years.

  • Soar into the sky on board a hot air balloon, and marvel at the Serengeti from an aerial viewpoint. This activity needs to be pre-booked, and please discuss with your safari consultant which camp is best to arrange it for you.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

Wilderness Usawa Serengeti has nine camp locations with access to key migration sites throughout the Serengeti. Two camps are always open, depending on the path of the migration, for optimum game viewing. Access to Wilderness Usawa Serengeti is by scheduled light aircraft, followed by a short game drive between the airstrip and camp. It’s possible to arrive at the southern camps by 4×4 vehicle during part of the year, but generally, access is fly-in.

*As this is a mobile tented camp, the location will change throughout the year based on the camp’s position. Mobile tented camps relocate seasonally to follow wildlife movements. Temporary but fully serviced, mobile tented camps leave no permanent trace and offer access to remote wilderness areas far from the crowds.

Set apart from the busier sections of the Serengeti, the camp offers a remote and uncharacteristically private Serengeti safari experience. The tents are thoughtfully designed, with comfy front-facing beds, an indoor shower, a double-basin vanity unit, and a separate toilet. There’s a writing desk, bedside stands with reading lamps, leather storage pockets, and charging points for all your photographic needs. Other features include an electronic safe, hanging storage space, storm lanterns, a complimentary tea-and-coffee station, a yoga mat, and Wi-Fi. The camp is 100 per cent solar powered, in keeping with Wilderness’ impeccable eco-credentials. This ethos extends to the mindful design of the tents, with their shaded net roofs and zip-up mesh for excellent airflow. Outside, you’ll find a simple seating arrangement with a hammock, ideal for early-morning coffee.
