The Etendeka concession is over 50,000 hectares and home to large numbers of wildlife including giraffe, kudu, oryx, mountain zebra, black rhino and desert elephant.
Walking safaris are particularly good here. Unlike neighbouring lodges that target rhino, Etendeka looks at small minutiae as well as large game.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course
Etendeka Mountain Camp sits in the foothills of the Grootberg massif in northern Damaraland. The scenery is stunning as lava flowed here millions of years ago, depositing red basalt which gradually eroded, leaving dramatic flat-topped mountains with scattered boulders.
The 10 guest rooms are meru tents with hot and cold running water, flush restrooms and an open-air bucket shower.
The rooms are shaded and connected by pathways to a main lounge area, where wholesome meals are served using fresh ingredients.
