Tanzania Solo Safari Vacations

Tanzania is superb for a solo adventure. Not only is there enough wildlife throughout the country’s parks and reserves to excite even the most seasoned safarist, but there are some really friendly and great-value camps and lodges too!

A key reason the country is so good for single travelers is that it’s possible to join up with other solo adventurers, couples, and small groups on set itineraries, with companies such as Elewana and Hoopoe. This really helps bring down the cost – the more people in a safari vehicle, the less expensive a day on safari is!

If you don’t want to join up with others for your whole safari, preferring to travel on your own to each property, we’ll simply book your accommodation and you’ll go on safari with whoever is staying at the lodge or camp. For this kind of solo traveler, there are a couple of considerations to take on board. The first is the cost – there are a number of companies that operate better-value trips than others. This is all down to the levy some companies put on single travelers, known as the single supplement. The single supplement can be as much as 50 per cent and goes towards the cost of the other person who is not in your room.

Join a Group Safari in Northern Tanzania

Many of these trips involve mobile camps, while others are lodge-based safaris – so the choice for solo travelers is very wide. We also work with a number of expert guides, such as Alex Walker, who lead specialist safaris across the region – these safaris tend to be more expensive, but they do feature the best properties and guarantee a very high level of guiding. A specialist guide would be based at the property you visit, accompanying you on private game drives, or he/she would accompany you throughout your trip.

No single supplement is payable in Elewana and Lemala properties during low and shoulder seasons. Elsewhere, the single supplement ranges from approximately 30 to 50 per cent. You could also consider whether you’d like to dine with others or alone, as some camps provide set dining sittings.

  • Game drives: Parts of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater are amazing for game drives featuring all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! There are numerous smaller predators and herbivores too, and hundreds of birds. Please contact us if you’re interested in visiting the Serengeti while the herds of the Great Migration are in residence, and we’ll do our best to get you a front-row seat.
