  • Guided nature walks start directly from the lodge, allowing guests to focus on the birds, butterflies, and primate species that inhabit this lush rainforest terrain.

  • Kibale Forest is a paradise for birdwatchers, with more than 350 species to tick off the list. These include the great blue turaco, yellow-billed barbet, black bishop, white-tailed ant-thrush, and black-crowned waxbill, to name a few.

  • Embark on a 4.5 kilometers guided walk within the biodiverse Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, keeping an eye out for the various primate species and stunning variety of birds.

  • If you’re feeling active, head out on a mountain bike ride or hike to explore the region’s dramatic crater lakes and tea plantations with their gorgeous mountain views.

  • Village visits enable guests to meet local community members and gain insights into their way of life. Nkingo and Bigodi villages are closest to Turaco Treetops.

Access & Location

Turaco Treetops occupies a beautiful setting within 5.2 hectares of rainforest on the outskirts of Kibale Forest National Park, overlooking the Rwenzori Mountains. Visitors usually arrive at Entebbe International Airport, followed by a domestic flight to Kasese airstrip. From there, it’s just under 2 hours by car to the lodge.

Structured to optimise the verdant rainforest views, the large outside terrace is the perfect place to pull up a chair and look out for colobus monkeys and all the brightly coloured birds and butterflies who inhabit the lodge grounds. On the lower level, there’s a comfortable lounge with a fireplace for keeping warm during the cool mornings and evenings, a bar, and an outside veranda. The upper level features a second lounge space with spectacular views towards the snow-peaked Rwenzori Mountains. You’ll also find Wi-Fi and charging docks in the main building. Turaco Treetops is a family-friendly property with plenty to keep the kids entertained! The outdoor playground guarantees hours of fun for little guests, and there’s also an indoor kids’ room. The entry-level units are located in four duplex buildings within the forest, each offering 30 square meters of space and accommodating up to three adults or a family of four, including a baby cot. The style is simple and understated, featuring extra-long beds, overhanging mosquito nets, crisp white linens, and ample storage. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and a hot shower. Shared balconies with the next-door room feature comfortable couches where guests can relax and take in the stunning views. The luxury cottages are larger, measuring 40 sq. m, and are spread out in various forest locations with views of the surrounding greenery. Double doors open up to spacious wooden decks with comfortable seating, allowing guests to make the most of the spectacular outlook over Kibale National Park. Like the standard rooms, each cottage has an extra-long bed, mosquito netting, storage space, and a safety deposit box for valuables. There’s also an indoor seating area, ideal for curling up with a book and a hot chocolate on cool evenings.
