Wilderness Little Ruckomechi offers a good assortment of activities – game drives, nature walks, river cruises, birding, and fishing.
Game drives head off into the concession or the national park during early morning and late afternoon, and involve a welcome coffee break or sundowner along the way! There is loads to see in the Mana Pools region – the predator count includes lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and wild dog, while among the herbivores are elephant, buffalo, zebra, and all sorts of antelopes. Hippos may be seen wallowing in the river, while the wooded areas attract lesser bushbaby, vervet monkey, and chacma baboon.
Night drives are possible within the concession – these are a wonderful opportunity to observe nocturnal species such as honey badger and pangolin. Nature walks provide fascinating insights into the little lives of Ruckomechi, including the plants, insects, and birds. Highlights for birders are rufous-bellied heron, southern carmine bee-eater, and white-breasted cuckooshrike.
River cruises are highly recommended for checking out the waterbirds – and the hippos too! And catch-and-release fishing is also available, with guests bringing their own equipment and hoping to catch the likes of tigerfish, barbell, and bream.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
Travelers to Mana Pools usually fly in to the international airport of Harare or Victoria Falls, and then transfer by road or air to the national park. Wilderness Little Ruckomechi occupies a beautiful site on the banks of the Zambezi river, amidst albida trees. Wilderness Ruckomechi, the only other property within the 40km2 concession, is a few kilometers away.
The communal spaces at Wilderness Little Ruckomechi comprise two tents, each with a wooden deck and canvas roofing.

One is the lounge tent, containing comfortable sofas and armchairs, coffee tables, bookshelves, and a few intriguing artefacts. The other is the dining tent, which features a long table and upright chairs for communal meals. Both tents are decorated in fairly neutral colors, and they are open sided to offer amazing views of the mighty Zambezi flowing past. Guests can enjoy al fresco dining too, and the camp’s fire pit is the perfect place for morning or evening beverages in the company of your fellow travelers! There’s a plunge pool too, fabulous for cooling off in between activities.

These are connected to the main area along a sandy pathway. In common with the communal tents, all are made out of canvas and wood. They are also raised above ground level to provide a private veranda – set with a couple of comfy chairs and a small table, this is a great spot for watching the wildlife go by! The entrance to each tent is to the side, and opens onto a light and airy space, neutrally decorated and benefiting from gauze windows. From your bed, either a king-size double or twins, you can gaze out across the concession. There’s a smart seating area close to the front window, a vanity unit with twin copper washbasins behind the bedroom space, and a writing desk with chair against the back wall. Other features include a ceiling fan, stylish lighting, a wardrobe, and a safe. The en-suite facilities comprise a wet room with shower, and a separate toilet.
