Inspired by a love of travel and a yearning for authentic experiences, Kate spent her early 20s solo traveling around the globe, visiting over 65 countries – 14 of these were in Africa, which stole her heart. Following years of working as a tour operator based in Bristol, Kate now joins the Yellow Zebra herd ready for her next adventure.

Kate’s Recent Travel Experience

Kate was lucky enough to spend two weeks in Zambia in October 2024, visiting this beautiful, untouched, and unspoilt country. She started with a few days in Victoria Falls, before heading into the heart of the Lower Zambezi. She was blown away with the game viewing just driving into camp, seeing a leopard in a tree, lions sleeping by the river, and elephants wading through the river. This is her favorite spot for a sundowner by the river, or lunch on a sandbank. She then headed to the South Luangwa, famous for its walking safaris and authentic bush camps. Getting to slow down on foot and concentrate on the smaller things and the flora and fauna, as well as still seeing an insane amount of wildlife on game drives, made for the perfect balance.

Kate’s Most Memorable Experience

“As with everybody else on the team, it’s pretty tough to narrow it down. Spending weeks living in a Maasai mud hut in a village in the Ngong Hills, Kenya was an experience that really touched me. It was tougher than I imagined but extremely rewarding. I was completely shut off from the outside world and spent days beading, farming, and teaching at the village school, with one bucket bath each week. I’ve never been met with more openness, kindness, and generosity, than I was there. I’ve since been able to fund the eldest son of the family to attend university in Nairobi to study Business, and we keep in touch today after 9 years. Other moments that really stand out are the simple things, from swimming in Lake Malawi at sunset, sleeping in the wild and cooking dinner on an open fire with wildlife around us, climbing Dune 45 at sunrise in Namibia, and walking between camps in Zambia for the most remote and immersive stay.”

Kate’s Bio

Born and raised in rural England, Kate developed a passion for Africa in her early years, with a yearning to travel there. She first headed to northern Africa, on a solo adventure when she turned 18 to volunteer at a school and orphanage. This then flourished into multiple trips back to the continent, where she fell in love with it, over and over. The uniqueness of each country, together with the diversity, warmth, beauty, and that ‘belonging’ feeling, overwhelmed her and led to her working in Mombasa on the beach front, to living with a Maasai family, overlanding from East Africa to South Africa, as well as spending time in Uganda and Zambia. Kate has traveled extensively through Asia, the USA, South America, and Europe, but her true passion is for others to experience the beauty, authenticity, and diversity that Africa has to offer. Over the recent years, she expanded her knowledge across the region and joined a tour operator in Bristol, designing safaris and sharing this extraordinary corner of the world with others. She has now joined the Yellow Zebra family, which she is thrilled about!
