  • During the wetter months, it’s possible to access the park’s seasonal waterways by boat, taking in the spectacular birdlife, large hippo pods, and wading crocs. Lake Urema boat safaris are also possible when water levels permit.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

Muzimu Lodge is located in Mozambique’s wild Gorongosa National Park in the country’s remote center. Guests arrive at Johannesburg International Airport and fly to Beira (BEW), followed by a 35-minute Safari Air charter flight to Chitengo airstrip within the park.

Meals are served al fresco to the sounds of the bush, featuring the freshest seasonal ingredients. For greater privacy and exclusivity, private bush dinners can also be organised in a secluded spot under the stars. Cool off in the swimming pool or retreat to a sunlounger with a book to enjoy the forest’s tranquillity – Muzimu is a peaceful haven with plenty of corners for guests to pause and connect with nature. As evening falls, the fire-pit becomes a gathering point for sharing safari stories and tales of the day’s events. For further relaxation, in-room massage treatments are available on your private deck.

 

Amenities

Muzimu Lodge features six classic tented suites, secluded within the riverine forest overlooking the seasonal Mussicadzi River.

Stylishly understated, each suite offers a king-sized bed draped in mosquito netting, a writing desk, and a comfortable indoor lounge. Modern comforts include an electronic safe, fans, and tea-and-coffee-making facilities. Each light-filled en-suite bathroom boasts a large walk-in rain shower and a flush loo. Outside, private wooden decks provide a peaceful vantage point to observe passing wildlife and the filtered sunlight. In keeping with Muzimu’s commitment to conservation, the lodge is powered by solar energy. Please note that while Wi-Fi is provided, it is available exclusively within the guest suites.
