A must-do during your time here! Sail across the lagoon and into the sunset, returning to the bay just as the stars are beginning to twinkle in the evening sky. Your path back to the residence will be lit by lanterns, so you needn’t worry about losing your way. Please note, the availability of this experience depends on the weather.
This is a half-day excursion, for travellers interested in exploring the Govhuro river tributary. Including a picnic lunch and drinks, it takes you on an exciting adventure in which you’ll see marine and bird life, journey deep into the mangrove forests, and pass by intriguing river villages.
You can also enjoy picnicking at this fabulous location, a deserted and very scenic sand bar. Among the sights to savour here are the waves lapping on the shore and members of the Ponto Macovane fishing community hauling in their daily catch, all from the cozy surrounds of your own tent too.
Another island well worth visiting, Santa Carolina is situated within the stunning Bazaruto Archipelago. You’ll tuck into delicious picnic fare here as well, with opportunities to go snorkelling and take a look at the ruins of a hotel, built in the 1950s.
Due to its lagoon-front setting, Sussurro is well able to offer a variety of watersports, such as scuba diving! Advance booking is required, so please let us know if this is of interest to you. Paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkelling are all easy to arrange on site.
Sussurro’s remote location allows for various insightful activities into the nearby community and the beautiful natural areas nearby. The lodge can plan dune hikes, a private beach picnic, permaculture garden tour, a weaving experience with the ladies in the village, and more.
Sussurro is located on the shores of a sparkling turquoise lagoon, in southern Mozambique, with the wilder waters of the Mozambique Channel and its deserted beaches a short walk away. Guests touch down at Vilanculos International Airport, transferring to the property via either 1 hour 30 minutes by road, or a 25 minutes’ helicopter ride. When the tide is out, the last 40 km of the road transfer are along the beach!
The communal areas within this beach retreat are exquisitely presented, contributing to that barefoot luxury feel, and their natural appeal is enhanced by the addition of artisanal furniture, artworks and curios collected across sub-Saharan Africa.

There is a great restaurant incorporating an open-plan kitchen and a harvest table, making mealtimes a fully shared experience. Sussurro has a real-food philosophy, which involves plenty of fresh fish, vegetables, and other local produce. There’s even an organic food garden in the grounds! The bar is another pleasant place where you can unwind, while the library offers a peaceful ambience, perfect for catching up on a little vacation reading. With a gallery, massage treatments, beach-and-elemental yoga deck, and lap pool also available, the property really has a lot to offer in the name of relaxation. And all staff are attentive throughout your stay, with the majority employed from the local community.

Constructed from stone, wood, and thatch, all merge seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, including the serenely swaying palm trees. The interiors are deliberately simply furnished and feature beautiful pieces crafted on site.
