Fortunately, this tumultuous period has cooled, and considerable peace and stability remain.
The country’s landmass is covered by about 80 per cent rainforest. These breathtaking ecosystems are home to an incredible array of wildlife, and the country is known as a biodiversity hotspot. It has the world’s largest population of lowland gorillas, who are the main tourist attraction, but they are just the tip of the iceberg.
