  • Consistently great
This little lodge is an absolute gem and I cannot fault it. With only four suites it offers a very private experience, and is also ideal for groups who want an exclusive lodge stay.

  • Expertly guided game drives start from the lodge twice daily, providing superb opportunities to view Phinda’s varied wildlife. The reserve covers over 28,000 hectares, including savanna, woodland, forest, mountains, rivers, marshes, and pans. This diversity of ecosystems naturally supports a lot of different species. You can expect to see all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to numerous smaller predators and herbivores.

  • Bush walks allow visitors to connect with the land in ways that aren’t so easy from a game drive vehicle. Observe some of Phinda’s extraordinary bird life, amble along a dry river bed, or simply pause for a few moments to watch a lizard sunning itself on a rock or zebras taking shade under a tree. Big game viewing walks are also on offer, led by an expertly trained ranger and tracker team.

  • Phinda’s safari guides are well versed in how to use a camera for those all-important wildlife photos. A fully equipped photographic safari vehicle fitted with state-of-the-art camera mounts is available, and you’ll receive advice on shutter speed, lenses, filters, angles, and lighting to help you capture the perfect shots.

  • Spend a night close to nature in the heart of the bush, surrounded by warmly lit lanterns hanging from the trees. You’ll be welcomed with sundowner drinks while your guide prepares a hearty meal on the open fire. Fall asleep beneath the stars on a comfy bed with a duvet and warm blankets, while listening to the sound of a hyena or lion in the distance. An armed guard will patrol through the night to ensure your safety.

  • Accompanied by your expert guide, learn about rhino middens and scratching posts, follow rhino tracks, and spot the signs of bent trees and broken grass blades that signal rhino activity.

  • An e-biking adventure takes you through the sand forest on various trails depending on your skill level and preferred length. Guided by your ranger and an e-biking guide, enjoy the freedom of gliding along nature trails surrounded by gorgeous scenery.

  • There are various fascinating conservation experiences offered at &Beyond Phinda Zuka Lodge. Perhaps you’ll choose to participate in a guided pangolin research and monitoring experience, witness an elephant collaring, or take part in the capture and darting of a black or white rhino. This is a fantastic opportunity to witness conservation behind the scenes.

  • A community visit might include projects in the Mduku and Mnqobokazi communities, such as the Khulani Special School, the Mduku Clinic, and the Mbhedula Craft Market. Alternatively, you can visit a Zulu homestead and the training school of a local sangoma, or traditional healer.

  • Nearby Sodwana Bay offers a variety of marine experiences, including seasonal turtle nesting adventures, ocean safaris, scuba diving, beach outings, and fishing.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
