OHS offers five-, seven-, and ten-night itineraries, alongside a great range of other activities. All safaris take place in the private Ranns Concession, which covers in excess of 2,500 square meters of plains, woodlands, and waterways.
This is the introductory itinerary. Following an orientation ride, guests spend Day 2 exploring the Xudum area, riding out to Mokolowane Camp on Day 3 and returning to Kujwana on Day 5. All rides are interspersed with other activities and some superb bush dining! While on horseback, you’ll enjoy getting really close to the wildlife of the concession, which includes big cats, elephant, buffalo, hippo, zebra, antelopes, and an impressive assortment of birds.
The slightly longer itinerary provides extra time for guests to get to know the Kujwana region. Again, both Kujwana Camp and Mokolowane Camp are used, and in between rides you’ll take part in vehicle and walking safaris, mokoro excursions, boat trips, and fishing (season dependent).
Recommended for adventurous riders, this itinerary uses all three camps and involves an exhilarating variety of terrains and wildlife sightings. The perfect trip for seasoned horse safarists!
Non-riders can opt for a three- or six-night itinerary using two or three of OHS’s camps. This is an excellent option for safarists wishing to accompany a riding party without participating in horse rides themselves. You’ll join up for other activities and camp meals.
In between rides, you can board a safari vehicle and look out for the local wildlife in the presence of your expert guide.
Also accompanied by your guide, walks are fantastic for getting to know the smaller lives of the Ranns Concession, such as the plants, insects, and bird species.
A mokoro is a dug-out canoe. As it doesn’t have a motor, there’s no sound to startle the wildlife of the waters, so you’ll be treated to close encounters with elephant, hippo, and vibrant waterbirds.
Alternatively, board a boat and enjoy covering a lot of river meters while doing a little birdwatching, for example.

Kujwana Camp, the starting point for all horse safaris, is accessed via helicopter or light aircraft flight from Maun Airport. Guests traveling by light aircraft touch down at the local airstrip and transfer to camp via safari vehicle or boat. All camps are situated in the private Ranns Concession, in the wildlife-rich Okavango Delta.
The communal facilities at Kujwana Camp are positioned in and around a central timber-and-thatch lodge building, which in common with the guest accommodation offers amazing views over the River Xudum.
In the lounge, there’s plenty of wood-framed well-cushioned seating around coffee tables, while the dining area features one large table where everyone eats together. Kujwana also has a treehouse, offering exceptionally good views over the concession, as well as a fire-pit and a swimming pool! There’s even access to Wi-Fi, and this camp is home to the horses’ tack room, training area, and barn. Mokolowane, situated 6 hours’ ride north-west of Kujwana, offers smaller yet comfortable lounge and dining areas. And Fly Camp is all about relaxing and dining al fresco.
Guests are accommodated in up to three different camps, depending on the type of horse safari itinerary they choose.
The main camp is called Kujwana, and it boasts a mixture of two luxury safari suites and four classic tents. All units are positioned along the banks of the Xudum river, with Rocking Horse Suite closest to the camp’s communal areas and Hippo Cradle Suite farthest away. Enter a tent, and you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and ample storage space. The en-suite washroom contains a flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. At the front of the tent, a seating area flows out onto a private veranda, where you can relax and enjoy lovely river views! The suites are larger than the tents, and Hippo Cradle’s nicely secluded location makes it particularly suitable for honeymooners and couples. At Mokolowane, the secondary camp, there are five en-suite treehouses near the Matsibe river, while the accommodation at Fly Camp consists of beds set out on a raised timber platform and under mosquito netting. Washing facilities at Fly Camp comprise bush restrooms, washstands, and bucket showers.
