Yellow Zebra recommends Lango Camp for travelers seeking treehouse-style living in an area with a real wealth of wildlife! Those views across the bai really are something special. A bai is a swampy depression full of herbs and sedges, attracting a lot of wildlife. In common with Ngaga and Mboko, properties situated in or just outside the park, Lango is owned and operated by Odzala Discovery Camps. It combines very well with Ngaga for travelers interested in gorilla tracking as well as all the activities offered by Lango. As at Ngaga, the minimum age requirement at Lango is 15 years.

Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Special, but not for everyone
Looking out over the Lango Bai deep in the rainforest, this camp is only accessible on foot or by kayak. You will spend your days following in the footsteps of the forest elephants as you explore the pristine rainforest. With rooms on elevated platforms with wraparound decks looking out over the bai, this is a truly magical place.

Facilities

The camp is spaced out along the edge of Lango Bai, with forest forming a scenic backdrop.

All buildings are made out of locally sourced materials and raised above the forest floor. The communal areas are housed in two thatch-roof structures, roughly at the center of the site. One contains the lounge and bar, with very comfortable seating around coffee tables, a few books about wildlife, and fans to keep you cool! Next door there’s the dining area, featuring a long table flanked by campaign-style chairs. Both lounge/bar and dining spaces boast beautiful views over the bai, so you can relax and tuck in to delicious meals while watching the resident herbivores munching in the bai. You can enjoy the scenery from the camp’s fire-pit too, essentially a large round deck in front of the communal structures and a fantastic spot for social gatherings!

Amenities

Lango Camp’s guest accommodation consists of six timber-and-thatch dome-roof chalets, all elevated on 3 to 4-meter stilts and connected to the communal structures along raised walkways.

We love the treehouse feel! Every chalet includes a twin bed or double beds, mosquito nets, an overhead fan, and an explorer’s-chest-inspired table behind the bed/s with lighting, toiletries, towels, and storage space. Valuable items can be stored in a central safe. The washing facilities are at the back of the room and comprise separate flush toilet, washbasin, and walk-in shower providing hot running water whenever you need it. The chalets also benefit from a private deck each, set with a small table and a couple of padded chairs.
