Trip Itinerary
Odzala–Kokoua National Park
The first stop on your Congo adventure takes you right into the heart of gorilla country for four nights. Ngaga Camp is nestled in the canopy of the rainforest, the whole property being elevated on stilts, so that you feel at home with the surroundings. The camp features only six en-suite chalets, and you’ll receive a wonderful welcome from the lodge’s great staff, making for an intimate jungle experience. The wooden structures that make up the camp’s construction blend in beautifully with the forest. There’s also a ‘star-deck’ and a fire-pit – this is great for social occasions and exchanging tales from the day’s activities! From Ngaga, you will trek through Odzala rainforest to find the lowland gorillas in their extraordinary habitat. The length of the hike will vary depending on exactly where the gorilla family is, so be prepared for the possibility of a long day seeking them out. But your reward is one of the most amazing things you can do on any safari – spend time with our old ancestors!

For the next stage of your itinerary, you'll voyage farther into the jungles to stay at Lango Camp for three nights. Here the supreme diversity of the forest comes to life, including forest elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog, and some other primates you won’t have met yet – De Brazza’s monkey, mantled guereza, Angolan talapoin, and the Tana River mangabey, to name a few! The place is also well known for its stunning birdlife. The rooms are elevated on platforms with wrap-around decking and have lovely views over the bai – this is a truly magical setting. Treehouses are certainly the way to live your best life in the rainforest! The lounge, bar, and dining areas have amazing views of the bai, so you can relax and enjoy fine cuisine while the resident herbivores are eating alongside you.

The last place you’ll visit on your Congo odyssey is Mboko Camp, for three nights. This camp is famous for its boating! It offers a lovely, relaxing lodge and a fantastic site from which you can explore the river systems of the Congo Basin, on foot, by boat, or even via kayak. Transfers between the camps can be by boat (weather dependent) or on foot, or you can even mountain bike on exciting trails between the two properties! Classic game drives are also on offer here, as well as some great night driving where you can see serval, aardvark, and hyena lurking in the shadows. The lodge is located right next to a bai, which attracts plenty of local wildlife, and the charming cottages are all by the river, so you can hear the sounds of disgruntled hippos and other riverine beasts at night. Safaris here are truly magical!
