Trip Itinerary
The Serengeti
On arrival in Tanzania, you will meet Andrew and fly into the northern Serengeti, into the heart of the Great Migration to see the famous crossings. Rich pride heartlands are guaranteed, as the northern Serengeti is action-packed. Wayo Serengeti Green Camp is this area’s newcomer on the mobile camp scene. Enjoying prime locations away from busier areas, you’ll embark on early morning expert walking safaris or head straight for the river to watch the crossings. Serengeti Green is a wonderfully designed mobile camp whose value has sent shockwaves across the park. Fly camping in ‘star tents’ is also possible here, and it’s one of the purest experiences in Africa.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
From the Serengeti, you will fly with Andrew to Uganda for our next focus – the mountain gorillas of Bwindi. It’s well-known amongst safari-goers that while eyeballing a gorilla is not recommended by any guide, being in the midst of a family group is one of our planet’s most exhilarating experiences. You’ll stay at Buhoma Lodge in the heart of Bwindi, where the prime activity is morning treks. The area around Buhoma is regarded by many guides as the best habitat for gorilla trekking anywhere in Africa. You’ll be doing two treks – no trek is the same – before your afternoons are fine-tuned in line with your interests. Bwindi and this forest as a whole have over 350 bird species and more than 200 types of butterflies. Andrew will lead hikes to explore the jungle.
Entebbe
Spend one more night in Uganda, enjoying time to slow down before the pace picks up again for the next leg of the trip in Southern Africa. Located in central Uganda, Entebbe is ideally placed for a restful stopover on your whirlwind trip of Africa. You’ll stay at Karibu Guest House – translating to “welcome” in Swahili, Karibu is an inviting, comfortable spot with great food and warm hospitality. After a night here, you’ll catch your next flight – and the longest flight of the trip – to Lusaka in Zambia.
Lower Zambezi National Park
Arriving in Lusaka from Entebbe, journey onwards to the Lower Zambezi National Park. The Zambezi Valley is our founder Julian’s favourite region, the place he would ‘go on safari to tomorrow’. And the camp? Chula Island Lodge, a phenomenal wilderness experience in an intimate, adventurous camp on its own private island. This is back to sensational big game wildlife viewing on and around an island in the heart of the Zambezi River. The rooms at Chula are unique. The sides are essentially just net walls, providing an unobstructed 270-degree view of the bush at all times of day and night – adventurous Africa at its best!
Victoria Falls
From the sensational Lower Zambezi, you will fly to Victoria Falls, staying for two nights at the famous Victoria Falls Hotel — the oldest and grandest hotel on the Zimbabwean side of the falls. Arriving after you’ve visited some of the finest game locations across Africa, this is a chance to pause, reflect, and experience the power of the waterfall itself. As the falls are often best viewed from the sky, we have included a helicopter flight for you to see them from above.
Okavango Delta
From Victoria Falls, you’ll fly you into the Okavango Delta to explore one of Botswana’s most pristine and exclusive concessions at Kweene Trails with Beagle Expeditions. Kweene is the only truly mobile safari camp in Botswana’s high-end private reserves. Botswana is famous for its incredibly expensive private reserves, and exclusivity at this level is out of reach to many. However, Kweene has changed everything. Accessed by light aircraft and then by helicopter, Kweene Trails follows the Kweene River system in the western Okavango. This is an area famous for its ever-changing lion dynamics and resident packs of wild dogs. A quintessential Okavango game-viewing area, known only to the best guides, it’s an area that we absolutely love.
Cape Town
From Botswana, you’ll fly down to Cape Town for the final few days of the tour. Your four nights here will be spent in the heart of Cape Town, at the boutique hotel Four Rosmead. Day-to-day, there are a lot of options here to choose from! The key is to use the hotel as a base and to explore the city. A full day tour of the Cape Peninsula, taking in Cape Point, Chapman’s Peak Drive and the Boulders Beach penguin colony is highly recommended, while a classic city tour lets you see Cape Town through the eyes of the locals, and a cable car trip to the top of Table Mountain provides unmatched views over the city and Atlantic coastline. Finally, a trip to the Cape Winelands is a must. Here, you’ll get to sample award-winning wines and the region’s genuinely stand-out gastronomy scene.
