Over five decades, Ker & Downey has established itself as one of Botswana’s leading luxury safari operators.
Founded in Kenya in 1945, Ker & Downey later expanded its operations into Botswana, where Khwai River Lodge became the country’s first-ever photographic safari lodge. The company has evolved over the years, becoming part of the Botswana-owned Chobe Holdings Group in 2009. Ker & Downey Botswana’s portfolio now consists of seven high-end camps across Maun, the Okavango Delta, and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, where the brand stands for time-honoured, quality safaris in key wildlife-viewing areas. Ker & Downey Botswana is a collection agent for the philanthropic initiative Chobe Impact. It adds USD5 to each full-paying bed night at the properties, which goes directly to positive-impact projects.
Its properties include Shinde, Shinde Footsteps, Kanana, and the newly opened Maxa in the Okavango Delta, Okuti in the Moremi Game Reserve, Dinaka in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, and Grays Eden in Maun. All of the camps are family friendly, with Young Explorers programs hosted by specialist family guides and age-appropriate activities offered throughout. Some have dedicated family tents or can be taken over exclusively for a completely private experience and a fully flexible schedule.
Whether through boating, spotlit night drives, or star-bed sleep-outs, the Ker & Downey Botswana products are designed to offer high-quality safari activities in pristine wild settings. Guests with specific interests can also choose one of the photographic or walking safaris. The company supports charitable initiatives through Chobe Impact, including Bana Ba Letsatsi and the Dinaka Rhino Conservation Fund. Its professional safari guides run a wildlife club for children to foster a connection to nature and learn the importance of conserving Botswana’s wild spaces. Each year, Ker & Downey hosts groups of children from the wildlife club at their camps.
