Access & Location

Most travellers enter Namibia at Hosea Kutako International Airport. From here, you have easy access to Windhoek or Swakopmund – and from these towns, it’s possible to approach Namib-Naukluft National Park, for Camp Sossus, via road transfer. You can also fly in by light aircraft, touching down at the camp’s nearest airstrips at Hammerstein and Witwater. The camp is approximately 15 kilometres south-west of the national park’s main entrance at Sesriem.

Like the guest tents, the structure benefits from weatherproof natural stone walling and oil drums for its roof. Inside, there’s a spacious lounge with a fireplace, a communal family-style dining room where guests tuck in to delicious meals – including hot breakfasts, freshly prepared lunches, and three-course dinners – as well as a campfire and a viewing deck. There’s also a separate Wi-Fi lounge enabling travellers to stay connected if they choose. For booking purposes, the minimum number of nights you are permitted to stay here is two, although Ultimate Safaris recommends at least three to explore the area.

These have west-facing windows and south-facing doors to optimise the climatic conditions, and natural stone walls that protect against strong eastern winds. Each solar-powered unit features comfortable extra-length three-quarter twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a 220V electrical charging station, a pedestal fan, and ample storage space for your clothes and other belongings. The semi-open-air en-suite facilities comprise a flush toilet, a washbasin, and a classic bucket shower with hot water. Above each bathroom, star-beds offer guests the perfect night sky views with zero light pollution, making this a truly special experience. Outside the tents are shaded patios and comfortable day beds, ideal for relaxing with a book and gazing out at the mesmerising panoramas.
