Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Well-rounded and reliable
This is a great lower-priced option close to Etosha’s southern entrance gate. Somewhat larger than we normally like, but it serves its purpose well enough!

Birdlife sightings

  • The main activity from Etosha Safari Lodge is vehicle safari in Etosha National Park! This can be enjoyed in the company of an experienced guide, or as a self-driving expedition.

  • Both half and full-day guided drives are available. Half-day drives take place in early morning or late afternoon. You can also choose whether to board a 10- or 24-seater vehicle – the former is the more expensive option. However you decide to explore Etosha, this park offers seriously good game viewing!

  • All Big Five are in residence here – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo. Smaller predators include cheetah, brown and spotted hyenas, silver and black-backed jackals, and caracal, while among the herbivore count are giraffe, blue wildebeest, zebra, eland, impala, kudu, gemsbok, springbok, and steenbok.

  • The park’s birdlife is equally impressive, with specials such as brown snake eagle, pale chanting goshawk, pygmy falcon, black-faced babbler, violet wood hoopoe, white-tailed shrike, short-toed rock thrush, and, in green season, the vibrant blue crane!

In common with the guest accommodation, this building is made from brick and wood. Entering through Reception, you’ll find a shop selling lots of curio items, clothing, and accessories. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available here too. The lounge provides plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables, and the dining room has separate tables and chairs set up for delicious buffet breakfasts, typically cereals, fruits, yoghurts, bacon and eggs, and teas/coffees. Lunch and dinner buffets are available too, at £10–15 per meal. Each involves a great range of soups, salads, meats and vegetables, followed by a cooked dessert or a choice of fruits. Guests can also dine outdoors on the lodge deck, which provides lounge furniture as well. A wide walkway takes you out to an additional circular deck, complete with fire-pit! This is sundowner central, the perfect place to end your day on safari. And the lodge has a swimming pool, with sunloungers alongside.

Five are designed for family use. The distance from the outermost bungalows to the main lodge is quite long, but a minibus shuttle service is available. Every bungalow features whitewashed walls, sturdy brick columns, and wood-framed glass windows and doors. Each standard unit contains a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair with mirror over, storage space for clothes and other belongings, and snug rugs on the timber floor. Additional amenities include air conditioning, heating, a telephone, a tea-and-coffee station, and a safe. The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, washbasin with a vanity unit, and walk-in shower. The five family bungalows benefit from all these features, as well as two extra beds within the bedroom. Both categories have sliding doors onto a private veranda, where you can relax and enjoy beautiful views over the woodland!
