The main activity here is game drives. These take place every morning and afternoon, providing thrilling opportunities to see a wealth of wildlife!
Game drives from Serengeti Migration Camp really are thrilling throughout the migration months! The famous Great Migration is in the area around camp from approximately July until November, so this is the best time to visit if you’re hoping to see the huge herds! Over two million wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles enter the region in their search for food, crossing the croc-filled waters of the Grumeti river.
Such a vast concentration of plains game naturally attracts a lot of predators, not least all the big cats. However, wildlife viewing is exceptionally good outside the July–November period too. Highlights include all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – as well as cheetah, hyenas, jackals, giraffe, antelopes, hippos, and primates. There are hundreds of birds to look out for too, from ostrich to bee-eater and all sorts in between!
And hot air balloon safaris are also available, at extra cost. Launching at dawn, the balloon drifts for about an hour over the Serengeti’s sprawling plains, time enough to get an exhilarating bird’s-eye view of the park and its inhabitants! You’ll descend to a delicious bush breakfast on the savanna, before returning to camp.
The camp is accessed via 40 minutes’ road transfer from Lobo Airstrip. Flights into Lobo are available from Arusha Airport, from a number of operators. Nestling into rocky outcrops on the plains of the northern Serengeti, Migration Camp is set out on a number of levels, and its communal areas boast spectacular savanna views!
Well-laid paths and further flights of steps link the guest tents to Serengeti Migration Camp’s communal lodge, which stands at the highest point of the site.
A canvas-and-stone split-level structure contains the lounge, where you’ll find comfy leather and some wicker seating, an assortment of tables, Persian rugs, and wildlife wall artwork. The dining room features chic separate tables and upright chairs, and both spaces offer breathtaking vistas over the Serengeti! The camp’s fire-pit is set up on a lower level and has both campaign and metal chairs around the central stove. Finally, the swimming pool is just beneath the lounge. Surrounded by sunloungers, and benefiting from a lofty location, this is the perfect place to relax and marvel at the scenery in between activities!
Guest accommodation consists of 20 spacious tented rooms, all positioned at the base of the hill.
All are raised well above ground level on sturdy stilts, and a flight of steps leads up onto the wooden deck. Inside, each tent contains a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, a wardrobe, and a seating area featuring a bow-legged coffee table and large leather chairs. The en-suite facilities are located behind the bedroom area, and comprise a separate flush toilet, twin washbasins set in a wooden vanity unit, and a walk-in shower. Bathrobes and slippers are provided, and additional room amenities include a fan, a telephone for internal calls, an in-room electronic safe, and a good selection of stationery. Back in the bedroom, sliding doors open out onto a shaded private veranda, with 360-degree views!
