Chobe National Park

For the first leg of your Botswana safari on a budget, you’ll travel to Chobe National Park, where you’ll stay at Chobe Elephant Camp for two nights. This is an excellent eco-style camp, with a lofty position on top of a ridge overlooking the Chobe River and its floodplain. The lodge’s open-plan lounge and dining area flows out into a traditional boma, while a pathway brings you to a viewing deck with swimming pool. As far as activities are concerned, there’s a clue in the name of the camp – Chobe boasts the biggest elephant population in Africa! You’ll be able to check out the herds on game drives and boat cruises. The camp also offers walks through the local village.

Okavango Delta

From Chobe, you’ll head to the Okavango Delta and stay in two properties. The first property is Sango Safari Camp, where you’ll stay for three nights. This is a classic tented safari camp, with an open main area and a few Meru-style guest tents. The views are beautiful from camp, comprising floodplains, riverine forests, and dry woodlands, supporting a fine diversity of wildlife. You can enjoy all this from your private veranda too. Due to its location between the Khwai river and the predator-rich Moremi Game Reserve, Sango provides some great game-viewing activities – day and night game drives, all-day game drives, and mokoro excursions, but keep in mind that this is a busier area than deeper in the Okavango. You can expect to see four of the Big Five species – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – as well as cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, antelopes, hippopotamus, crocodile, and many more!

Okavango Delta

It’s just a quick hop in a light aircraft from Sango to Pom Pom, and you spend the last two nights of this Botswana safari on a private island and in one of the Delta’s best-value private reserves. Pom Pom is an adventurous little property, in an area where the scenery is nothing short of spectacular, featuring reed-fringed channels and waterlily lagoons. Guest accommodation consists of safari tents, each with its own private veranda overlooking beautiful views across the lagoon! Activities from Pom Pom focus on checking out the local wildlife, on morning and evening game drives, and mokoro excursions. This part of the Delta also boasts a wealth of wildlife! Fishing is available too, with the safari guides on hand to help you find the likes of African pike and various types of bream.

Overview & Activities

We use three properties in Botswana that offer superb value for those traveling to Botswana on a tight budget. You’ll start at Chobe Elephant Camp, situated well away from the crowds, on the edge of a rocky bluff over the Chobe River. Then you’ll head to the Okavango Delta, where you’ll stay at Sango Camp, a fantastic little property just outside the Moremi Game Reserve, and then finally to the adventurous Pom Pom Camp, which is located in a beautiful area of the west of the Okavango Delta.

Chobe Elephant Camp offers expertly guided game drives and boat cruises, as well as village visits. The safari continues once you’ve arrived at Sango, where you can enjoy day and night game drives, all-day game drives, mokoro excursions, and walks around a local village. Being in an exclusive private reserve, Pom Pom can offer more intimate vehicle safaris, in addition to mokoro rides and fishing.
