Trip Itinerary
Cape Town
Once you’ve landed into Cape Town, you’ll begin this trip to South Africa by staying at the well-located Four Rosemead Guest House for three nights. Privately owned and run, this boutique hotel is a bit of a favourite at Yellow Zebra and has a lovely location in Oranjezicht, a serene suburb. The communal spaces include a pleasant lounge, breakfast room, veranda, and gorgeous gardens complete with swimming pool! Over the next four days, you can explore Table Mountain, which is within easy reach as the hotel is located on the foothills of the mountain.
Cape Whale Coast
From Four Rosmead, you’ll head over to the Cape Whale Coast, where some of the world’s best land-based whale watching takes place (June–Oct). Next, you'll stay in the seaside town of Hermanus for two nights. Abalone Guest Lodge is your base here, a stylish boutique property with a cracking location perched adjacent to Siever’s Point. Once you’ve arrived, you can take a little time to relax in the communal areas, which have plenty of comfortable seats next to cosy fireplaces, or head to the swimming pool and take in fantastic views over the sea. Shops, restaurants, and bars can be reached within walking distance, and if you’d like to explore farther afield you could consider a hike or even go wine tasting within the lesser-known Hemel-en-Aarde wine valley. However, the main thrill of the area is of course the marine life! In the right season (May–Nov), you’ll have the chance of spotting whales right from the coast. However, by joining a boat cruise, you can get a closer look at the habitat of the Marine Big Five, and increase your chances of sighting whales up close, as well as searching for seals, dolphins, sharks, and African penguins.
Sabi Sands
Leaving Cape Town and the Winelands, you’ll spend the final few days of your trip on safari in the Sabi Sands, a private reserve bordering the world famous Kruger National Park. Notten’s Bush Camp, where you’ll be staying for four nights, is family owned and run with a lovely laidback atmosphere and is one of the original properties in the area. Communal spaces include comfortable lounge and dining areas, a bar, an open-air boma, and a deck. There’s also a spa, and a 20-metre lap pool! Guests are accommodated in charming safari chalets, each with a well-presented bedroom, an en-suite full bathroom, and sliding doors onto a private deck with amazing views. This area of the Sabi Sands is home to the Big Five, and is famous for its leopard sightings. Other wildlife in residence consists of cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, an exciting assortment of antelopes, and hundreds of birds!
